Windows 10 Will be A Free Upgrade

  • by

first year of launch

At a Windows 10 press event Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of Operating Systems, Terry Myerson, announced that a Windows 10 upgrade would be free for all users of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 within the first year of launch.

This move by Microsoft aims to deliver the new operating system into as many hands as possible. This is especially cost effective for companies who usually take a long time to upgrade to new versions in order to ensure compatibility with legacy programs and procedures.

By providing a free upgrade path, the cost savings may be too large for some organizations to ignore. With the lackluster response to Windows 8.1, will this be enough to finally persuade those Windows 7 holdouts to upgrade? Only time will tell, but from what we have seen so far, Windows 10 is shaping up to be the operating system that Windows 8 should have been.
