Microsoft has released their latest and greatest creation called Windows X (10).
What does this mean for you? For most of you nothing really, just install the free upgrade any time within the next year and enjoy the new features. However, if you have proprietary software that you use, you NEED to contact support before upgrading to Windows X. Why? You may ask, well as with most releases of new operating systems, compatibility comes into play. Most programs that will run on Windows 7/8/8.1 will most likely run on Windows X but why take the chance? Contact the distribution company and make sure that the program will work on the new Operating System, or check if they have a “work around” to make the program run on Windows X.
You may be asking yourself, “Well if it does not work, can I not just go back to the previous Operating system?” short answer is, not exactly. While it is possible to go back to Windows 7/8/8.1 it is not like uninstalling a program. In order to go backwards from an upgrade you must completely wipe and reinstall the new operating system. This will also wipe out any data, programs, or files you may have on the computer. It is possible to save the data before wiping the system to install the older Operating System, however programs i.e. QuickBooks, Office, cannot be saved and transferred and will need to be reinstalled after installing the older Operating System. It is possible to recover product keys for programs like Office, depending on the version.
