Protect Yourself from Disastrous IoT Vulnerabilities

IoT

These days it seems like even your trashcan has an IP address these days, these are called IoT devices (Internet of Things).

They are cool and nifty and can provide some control or reporting from various household items. It is cool to know that the trash can is half full and that you are down to five trash bags, but what if I told you that that same trash can could let a hacker on your network easily because of its hackable vulnerabilities?

IoT is relatively new and there have been exploits for such devices that have even created botnets taking down large servers using thousands of these little things from all over the world. Never, never, never have an IoT device directly connected to the Internet on a public interface.

For example, if you have a cable modem capable of having separate external IP addresses, do NOT ever plug an IoT device into a cable modem nor bypass your firewall or router! This will help keep you protected and prevent your device from being used maliciously!

If you are unsure whether or not your IoT devices are safe or not, feel free to give us a call and we would be more than happy to check your network and ensure that your home or business is safe from your IoT devices being compromised.
