ASUS SOFTWARE UPDATE ATTACK HACK

ASUS announced that hackers have apparently placed backdoor access, though the company’s own software update program, found on new ASUS systems.

While something similar happened last year with ASUS’ Live Update tool this attack actually affects much less people. They estimate about 600 computers specifically targeted, though your system may have been affected despite not being a target.

The attack is being labeled ‘ShadowHammer’ by Kaspersky and tools are already available to find out if you could have potentially been affected.  Unfortunately, at this time Kaspersky and ASUS says the currently do not know what the attacker’s goals were.  However, Kaspersky has made a easy tool to find out if your system was one of the targeted 600, and that tool can be found at the link below.
