Did You Know That...

  • About 6-8 million cats and dogs enter US shelters each year
  • About 3-4 million cats and dogs are euthanized in US shelters each year
  • In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats
  • In six years, one female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs
  • About 25% of dogs entering shelters are purebred
  • About two animals are euthanized per minute in Texas. That adds up to about one million animals being destroyed every year in Texas shelters alone.
  • Each day 10,000 humans are born in the US, and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born
  • Spaying a female dog or cat eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer
  • Neutering a male dog or cat reduces the risk of both prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Neutering also will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.
  • Eighty percent of dogs hit by cars are unneutered males
